FAQS

  • Is the external cord plugged in correctly to the outlet?
  • Is the circuit breaker on in the van? These can be anywhere in the RV – in a overhead cupboard or cupboards on floor?
  • If the RV is plugged into power is the microwave working?
  • Is your battery switch turned on?
  • Is your transformer plugged into a PowerPoint? Is that PowerPoint turned on?

*If you’ve ticked off all these things you might need to contact our Service Department on 08 8293 1000

Before you head out on an RV adventure it is critical you check your tyre pressure.

The tyre pressure should be around 42psi, depending on the load in your van and your specific RV as some smaller vans can run at a lower psi. The recommended minimum psi is 35psi. To find the optimal pressure for your van, check your tyre placard or caravan book – this should have an indication of correct pressure for weight. Different seasons also effect the tyre pressure.

Having a nice cold fridge ready for your adventures is an important part of getting your RV ready for travel.

Three Way Fridges

If you have a three way fridge, it’s important you switch it on the night before on 240v to get it nice and cold. Then when you hit the road, if the fridge is on automatic mode it will switch to 12v, maintaining the fridge’s temperature.

Then when you arrive at your destination and un-hook from your tow vehicle switch the fridge back to 240v or gas to keep cooling.

Please note 12 volt settings only maintain the current fridge temperature, it will not cool on 12v

Compressor Fridges

If you have a compressor fridge, you’re in luck! Compressor fridges run off your house battery/ transformer in your Jayco so cooling your fridge is quicker and easier.

Not long before you set off just turn on your fridge, wait 10 to 20 minutes and your fridge should be cool!

Every RV comes with a tow plug to connect to your car. One of the biggest questions is do I have the correct tow plug to suit my car / RV.

Most Jayco RV’s come with a 12 pin plug as standard. To make sure you can safely tow, your car’s tow plug wiring must match your RV. To make sure you have the correct wiring contact your sales person or our service department on 08 8293 1000 to get the correct wiring diagram for your Jayco as they do vary!

TARE

The caravan, the whole caravan and nothing but the caravan.
The tare is the caravan weight by itself, without the car, without the luggage. They call this the TARE WEIGHT (empty weight).

PAYLOAD

The maximum amount of luggage, water & gas you can pack into your caravan while remaining safe on the road.

ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass)

The entire weight of your caravan packed to the max.
Both these weights together are called your ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass). If you cannot find your payload weight you can get it by subtracting the TARE
WEIGHT from the ATM.

BALL WEIGHT

Weight on the tow ball only.  Now your tow car comes in to play. To work out if your car can tow your caravan you now need to look at your BALL WEIGHT. This is the weight that the fully loaded caravan puts on the tow ball of your car.

GTM (Gross Trailer Mass)

Weight on the caravans tyres – not including weight on the tow bar
